Brittany Snow, best known for her roles in movies like “Pitch Perfect” and “John Tucker Must Die,” recently opened up about her decision to take a significant hiatus from her acting career to focus on her mental health. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Snow shared insights into her struggles with mental health and eating disorders and how she prioritised her well-being.

The actress, now 39, is currently starring in Netflix’s new drama series, “The Hunting Wives,” where she plays a character who, much like herself, has dealt with anxiety and depression. Snow mentioned that she found a sense of connection with her character, Sophie, who openly discusses her own mental health challenges.
Reflecting on her past, Snow revealed that at the age of 23, she took two years away from the spotlight before filming “Pitch Perfect” in 2011 to focus on managing her anxiety and nerves. This break proved to be transformative for her, allowing her to rediscover herself and pave a new path forward in her career.
Snow’s journey in the entertainment industry began at a young age, starting as a model at just three years old. Over the years, she transitioned into acting, landing roles in TV shows like “Guiding Light” and “American Dreams.” Despite her success in films like “Hairspray” and “John Tucker Must Die,” Snow acknowledged that the industry can be challenging, with constant uncertainties about the future.
The actress also shared her admiration for fellow actors who have inspired her, including Claire Danes, whom she had the opportunity to work with on the Netflix thriller “The Beast in Me.” Snow expressed her deep respect for Danes, both for her acting prowess and her ability to maintain a private life amidst fame.
Outside of her professional life, Snow values her support system, which includes her family, friends from the “Pitch Perfect” cast, and her loyal canine companion, Charlie. She also spoke candidly about her father’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease, revealing the emotional toll it has taken on her while cherishing the moments they still share.
As Snow continues to grow in her career, with upcoming projects like the Hulu limited series “Murdaugh Murders,” she remains focused on her personal definition of success. She emphasised that success comes in various forms and that for her, it is about perseverance and staying true to herself amidst the challenges of the industry.
Through her journey of self-discovery and resilience, Brittany Snow serves as an inspiration for many, highlighting the importance of prioritising mental health and well-being in the pursuit of one’s goals. As she continues to evolve both personally and professionally, fans can look forward to seeing more of her captivating performances on screen.
