The plane, carrying the three individuals, had taken off from West Yellowstone Airport just before midnight on a Thursday but disappeared thereafter. Utilizing data from a smartwatch belonging to one of the occupants, search planes were able to confirm the location of the downed aircraft in dense timber near South Plateau Road. Tragically, all three individuals aboard the plane had succumbed to the crash, despite the efforts of the Search and Rescue teams.

The victims were identified as the Conovers from Tennessee and Kurt Enoch Robey from Utah. Robey, who had aspirations of becoming a commercial pilot, was described by his friend Zoë Spottiswood as someone who died pursuing his passion. His wife, Brooke Larson Robey, shared a heartfelt moment before his departure for the fatal flight, expressing his joy in flying and gratitude for being able to live his dream. Enoch was a family man, a father to four children, a stepfather to two others, and a grandfather to three, deeply rooted in his faith in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Enoch’s best friend, Chris Kyler, spoke fondly of him, highlighting his kindness, warmth, and love for travel. The crash occurred amidst gusty winds and chilly temperatures, leading to the tragic outcome. Kyler mentioned that all three individuals were experienced pilots, emphasizing Robey’s cautious nature when it came to adverse weather conditions. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are actively investigating the crash to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the tragedy.
Sheriff Dan Springer conveyed his condolences to the Conover and Robey families, appreciating the collaborative efforts involved in responding to the crash. The community mourns the loss of these individuals, and a funeral for Enoch is scheduled to be held later in the week, as stated on his wife’s Facebook page. The impact of this devastating incident serves as a reminder of the risks associated with aviation and underscores the importance of safety measures in air travel.
As the investigation progresses, details surrounding the crash will be revealed, shedding light on the sequence of events that led to the unfortunate loss of lives. The role of technology, such as the smartwatch in aiding the rescue operations, demonstrates the potential for innovative solutions in critical situations. The memories of the victims will be cherished by their loved ones, and the community stands together in solidarity during this time of grief and reflection.
