Lizzo’s legal team is currently embroiled in a heated legal battle against what they perceive as a “meritless” discrimination and wrongful termination lawsuit filed against the singer’s touring company. The legal team is fervently seeking a full dismissal of the case before it proceeds to trial.

In recent court documents filed on July 18, the singer’s lawyers, including renowned attorney Martin Singer, vehemently refuted the allegations brought forth by the plaintiff, former wardrobe assistant Asha Daniels. They went as far as labelling Daniels as a “brazen liar,” citing her as a “disgruntled” ex-employee with an “inflated ego” on a mission to settle personal vendettas against Lizzo and her team.

According to Singer, Daniels is not a victim of discrimination or harassment as she asserts, instead, he claims she has an insatiable appetite for seeking free publicity. The legal team for Lizzo argues that the plaintiff is motivated by ill intentions and is falsely accusing the singer and her production company of wrongdoing.
Daniels, who filed the complaint back in September 2023, alleges that she faced racist and fat-phobic remarks, was denied medical care leading to anxiety and PTSD, and experienced a toxic work environment during her time working on Lizzo’s Special Tour in Europe. In response to Friday’s filings, attorney Ron Zambrano representing Daniels, expressed confidence in the case’s credibility, stating that they are prepared to take the case to trial and emerge victorious.
This isn’t the first attempt by Lizzo’s legal team to dismiss Daniels’ lawsuit. Back in December 2023, they argued that the complaint lacked merit and was merely intended to tarnish Lizzo’s reputation. Despite facing legal challenges, including a federal judge ruling in December 2024 that Lizzo could not be individually sued, the legal battle rages on.
In the most recent court filings, the attorneys for Big Grrrl Touring, Lizzo’s tour company, are pushing for a summary judgment to bring a swift end to what they term a baseless case. They argue that Daniels’ termination was justified due to her inability to work harmoniously with her manager, lack of experience, non-compliance with safety regulations, and failing to adhere to tour protocols.
If the motion seeking dismissal is unsuccessful, a jury trial is anticipated to take place later this year. The ongoing legal conflict adds to a series of legal disputes Lizzo has faced in the past, including sexual harassment and assault lawsuits from former backup dancers.
In a cover story for Women’s Health in July 2025, Lizzo opened up about the toll these legal battles have taken on her mental health, expressing feelings of paranoia and isolation due to the stress and pressures of the lawsuits. Despite the challenges she faces, Lizzo remains steadfast and resilient in her pursuit of justice and truth amidst the legal turbulence surrounding her.
As the legal saga unfolds, the public awaits the final outcome of this high-profile case that has captured attention for its complexity and scrutiny of the entertainment industry’s treatment of its employees. Stay tuned for further updates on the evolving legal battle involving Lizzo and her legal team.
