FKA Twigs has decided to drop her lawsuit against her ex-boyfriend, Shia LaBeouf, which alleged instances of abuse. The English singer-songwriter, whose real name is Tahliah Barnett, made the move to dismiss the lawsuit in the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles. This action took place four and a half years after she initially filed the suit back in December 2020. The official Request for Dismissal was entered on Friday, July 18. The court filing obtained by PEOPLE notes that Twigs requested to dismiss the complaint with prejudice, indicating a final resolution on the matter.

The previously scheduled trial, which was supposed to commence in September (after being rescheduled from the original October 2024 date), has now been formally cancelled by the court, as per official records. In a joint statement released by Twigs and LaBeouf, they expressed a commitment to moving forward positively. They stated, “Committed to forging a constructive path forward, we have agreed to settle our case out of court. While the details of the settlement will remain private, we wish each other personal happiness, professional success, and peace in the future.”

Twigs and LaBeouf had a romantic relationship between 2018 and 2019, following their meeting on the set of his directorial debut film “Honey Boy”. Notably, during this time, LaBeouf was in a period of separation from his now-wife, Mia Goth. However, by the spring of 2019, their relationship had come to an end. Twigs’ lawsuit, filed in December 2020, accused LaBeouf of subjecting her to continuous sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. She also alleged that he knowingly transmitted a sexually transmitted disease to her. In a candid interview with The New York Times, Twigs described her experience with LaBeouf as “the worst thing I’ve ever been through in the whole of my life.”
Responding to the accusations, LaBeouf acknowledged his shortcomings and expressed remorse for his actions. He admitted to a history of alcoholism and aggressive behaviour towards himself and those around him. LaBeouf conceded that he had been abusive and expressed deep regret for the pain he had caused. Although he refuted the specific allegations made by Twigs, he acknowledged the need to be held accountable for his actions. Twigs’ decision to drop the lawsuit marks a significant development in their legal dispute, bringing the protracted matter to a close.
In conclusion, the resolution of the lawsuit between FKA Twigs and Shia LaBeouf highlights the complexity of addressing issues related to abuse and accountability in personal relationships. The decision to settle the case out of court reflects a desire on both parties to move forward positively and find closure. This high-profile case sheds light on the importance of speaking out against abuse and seeking justice, while also emphasising the significance of taking steps towards healing and reconciliation.
