Dentist Claims Wife’s Death on Safari Was an Accident, Until Another Story Emerged A new documentary series titled ‘Trophy Wife: Murder on Safari,’ set to debut on Hulu on July 21, delves into the case of Larry Rudolph, who was found guilty of killing his wife, Bianca Rudolph. In 2016, Bianca Rudolph tragically lost her life to a shotgun wound during a hunting expedition in Zambia. Her husband, Larry Rudolph, a dentist from the Pittsburgh area, initially insisted it was a freak accident that occurred during their dream African safari. However, shocking revelations surfaced years later that challenged this narrative.

Initially deemed an accidental death by local authorities in October 2016, Bianca’s tragic passing sparked an extensive international investigation. This investigation uncovered a web of deceit, including a clandestine affair at the workplace and a significant monetary incentive for murder. These discoveries have led to the creation of a three-part docuseries, ‘Trophy Wife: Murder on Safari,’ which will premiere on Hulu on July 21, shedding light on the case.

The upcoming docuseries by ABC News Studios will feature exclusive interviews conducted in a federal prison with Larry Rudolph and his former dental hygienist and lover, Lori Milliron. These interviews promise to provide unique insights into their relationship dynamics. Additionally, the series will include discussions with various individuals connected to the case, such as Larry’s former business partner, Milliron’s daughter, the Rudolphs’ insurance broker, FBI agents involved in the investigation, and the former U.S. ambassador to Zambia.
On the morning of October 11, 2016, as the couple prepared to depart from their hunting camp in Kafue National Park, tragedy struck when Bianca was fatally shot with a 12-gauge shotgun. Larry informed Zambian authorities that he heard the gunshot while in the shower and discovered his wife of 34 years on the bedroom floor, bleeding from a chest wound. He suggested that the gun discharged accidentally while Bianca was attempting to pack it away post-hunt, as per a federal complaint obtained by PEOPLE.
However, U.S. federal authorities disputed this account, indicating that Bianca was shot from a distance of 6.5 to 8 feet. Based on a reconstruction of the events, they concluded it was unlikely that Bianca had pulled the trigger. Furthermore, investigations revealed that Larry had a motive for murdering his wife, as he stood to gain approximately $4.9 million from fraudulent life insurance claims he filed on nine policies.
In August 2022, Larry Rudolph was convicted of foreign murder and mail fraud in a U.S. federal court and was sentenced to life imprisonment. During his trial in Denver, Colorado, a prosecutor mentioned that Larry had confessed to the shooting while having dinner with Milliron upon learning about the FBI’s inquiry into Bianca’s death in 2020. Despite his denials of involvement in his wife’s death during the trial, Larry and Milliron both faced legal consequences for their roles in the tragedy.
Lori Milliron, Larry’s mistress, was also found guilty in connection with the case and received a 17-year sentence in federal prison in June 2023 for perjury, obstruction of justice, and being an accessory after the fact. The docuseries, ‘Trophy Wife: Murder on Safari,’ produced by XTR in collaboration with Rolling Stone Films and ABC News Studios, directed and executive produced by Dani Sloane, brings this gripping narrative to viewers. Based on the Rolling Stone article “Before the Dentist Knows You’re Dead” by Matt Sullivan, the series promises to provide a detailed insight into this harrowing case.
‘Trophy Wife: Murder on Safari’ is set to premiere on Hulu on July 21, offering a comprehensive exploration of the events surrounding Bianca Rudolph’s death and the ensuing investigation and legal proceedings. Stay tuned to delve deeper into this gripping and tragic tale, which unravels the complexities of human relationships, deception, and the quest for justice.
