Christina Aguilera recently paid a visit to the stage musical adaptation of the beloved 2010 film, “Burlesque,” at London’s Savoy Theatre. The Grammy Award-winning singer, who executive produces the musical, attended a performance over the weekend and had nothing but praise for the show, giving it a glowing five-star review.

In an Instagram post shared on Saturday, July 20, Aguilera expressed her excitement, stating that she was “BLOWN AWAY!!” by the musical. The post included clips of the singer cheering on the cast from the audience, as well as interacting with fellow audience members. The video was set to the tune of “Show Me How You Burlesque,” one of the hit songs from the film’s soundtrack.
The stage adaptation features a mix of familiar tunes from the movie, such as “Welcome to Burlesque,” “Express,” and “Bound to You,” as well as new music by Todrick Hall and Jess Folley. Hall, who also directs and choreographs the musical, portrays the character of Sean, originally played by Stanley Tucci in the film. Folley, a newcomer to the stage, takes on the lead role of Ali, originally portrayed by Aguilera in the movie.
Joining Folley and Hall is Tony nominee Orfeh as Tess, the club owner originally played by Cher in the film. The rest of the cast includes George Maguire, Asha Parker Wallace, and Paul Jacob French, bringing the vibrant world of “Burlesque” to life on stage.
The musical follows Ali as she navigates the world of a glamorous underground club where sequins, seduction, and sisterhood are part of everyday life. The action, which takes place in New York City, sees Ali on a quest to find her mother, adding a new dimension to the familiar storyline.
In addition to her role as an executive producer, Aguilera has been actively supporting the production and the cast, including Folley, whom she commended for her performance in the show. “I am so thrilled to see Jess Folley kill it in Burlesque,” Aguilera shared in a separate Instagram post on Monday, July 21.
“Burlesque The Musical” officially opens on Tuesday, July 22 at the Savoy Theatre in London’s West End. Tickets are now available for purchase, offering fans the chance to experience the magic of this dazzling production firsthand.
As audiences eagerly await the show’s debut, the buzz surrounding “Burlesque The Musical” continues to grow, thanks in part to Aguilera’s enthusiastic endorsement and the stellar performances from the talented cast members. With its blend of iconic songs, captivating choreography, and compelling storytelling, the stage adaptation promises to be a must-see theatrical experience for fans of the original film and newcomers alike.
In an era where musical adaptations of popular movies continue to captivate audiences around the world, “Burlesque The Musical” stands out as a vibrant and exhilarating addition to the genre.
