A 27-year-old American hiker, Cole Henderson, has gone missing in the Pyrenees Mountains after embarking on a solo hike on July 9. Henderson was last heard from by his friends when he parked his car in the town of Torla and switched his phone to airplane mode before starting his hike. According to his friend Max Senoff, Henderson’s last known communication was a text to friends at 2 p.m. local time, and he was expected to return to the Netherlands on July 12 but did not show up for his flight.

The alarm was raised when Henderson failed to return from his hike, prompting friends to report him missing on July 14. Search and rescue teams in Spain are now scouring the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park for any trace of Henderson. His friend, Senoff, described him as a keen hiker and an “avid planner,” highlighting that Henderson had even shared his travel itinerary with friends before departing for Spain.
Henderson had been enjoying the final leg of his vacation in Spain after participating in the Running of the Bulls festival in Pamplona. His plans were to return to Amsterdam, where he had been working and living. The Spanish police have deployed helicopters and specialized search and rescue teams from the Civil Guard to aid in the search efforts for Henderson. Reports indicate that there were adverse weather conditions in the region near the national park on July 10, with hikers having to change routes due to heavy rain and thunderstorms.
In a show of solidarity and concern for their missing friend, Senoff and others have taken to social media to appeal for any information regarding Henderson’s whereabouts. Described as a social and well-travelled individual, Henderson’s friends remember him as a kind and curious soul. The search for Henderson has also garnered attention from the broader online community, with pleas for information from anyone who may have seen him in the area.
Henderson’s educational background includes attending high school in Delaware and graduating from Rhodes College in Tennessee. As the search intensifies, friends, authorities, and locals are joining forces to locate the missing hiker. The uncertainty surrounding Henderson’s disappearance has sparked a wave of support and concern from those who know him, hoping for his safe return from the remote Spanish mountains.
The search for Cole Henderson continues as friends, authorities, and volunteers collaborate to piece together his last known movements in the rugged terrain of the Pyrenees Mountains. As the days progress, the determination to find Henderson remains unwavering, with hopes and prayers for a positive resolution to this distressing situation.
