On a recent episode of SportsCenter, anchors Nicole Briscoe and Ryan Smith found themselves in fits of laughter over an incredible dunk during the NBA Summer League. The dunk in question was delivered by Johnny Furphy of the Indiana Pacers, who soared over Chicago Bulls rookie Noa Essengue in a display of sheer athleticism.
The moment, which occurred during a Summer League matchup in Las Vegas on July 14th, quickly went viral after being captured on camera. Smith, clearly astonished by the dunk, exclaimed that it was the “worst poster” he had ever seen in his life. Briscoe joined in on the amusement, at one point even burying her head in her arms on the desk from laughing so hard.
Despite their best efforts to regain composure and transition to other segments, both anchors found themselves revisiting the dunk, unable to contain their amusement. Taking to social media, they continued to marvel at the moment, with Smith insisting, “That’s not photoshopped,” and Briscoe echoing his sentiment.
The highlight reel was not only a hit with the SportsCenter anchors but also garnered attention from NBA players, including Furphy’s teammate Tyrese Haliburton, who expressed his admiration for the dunk on social media. Fellow basketball star Caitlin Clark also shared her support for Furphy’s impressive display of skill.
While the dunk was undoubtedly a standout moment in the game, it was not enough to secure a victory for the Pacers, as they ultimately fell to the Bulls with a score of 114-105. Despite the outcome, Furphy’s performance on the court did not go unnoticed, showcasing his talent and potential as a rising basketball star.
Furphy’s journey to the NBA began when he was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in 2024 before being traded to the Indiana Pacers. His collegiate career at the University of Kansas Jayhawks prepared him for the professional stage, where he continues to make waves with his skills and athleticism.
As the buzz around Johnny Furphy’s epic dunk continues to reverberate throughout the basketball community, fans and analysts alike eagerly anticipate what the young player will bring to the court in the upcoming NBA season.
