Residents of a Pembroke Pines neighborhood in south Florida were left lucky but shaken after a small two-engine plane crashed just one mile away from a local airport. Ring door cam footage captured the alarming moment when the plane collided with a tree, narrowly missing homes before landing in a yard around 8:10 p.m. local time on Sunday, July 13.
The plane, identified as a Cessna Skymaster, was en route from Turks and Caicos to the North Perry Airport in Broward County when it crashed close to the runway. Despite the terrifying crash, the pilot and the three passengers on board managed to survive and were promptly taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Among the passengers were reportedly two teenagers, aged 13 and 16, according to sources revealed to NBC6.

In a display of quick thinking and bravery, neighbors sprang into action, utilizing hoses and axes to assist in rescuing the passengers trapped inside the wreckage. One witness, Giovanna Hanley, shared on Facebook how her father-in-law was one of the first responders, helping to break glass and extract the individuals from the plane within moments of the crash. Thanks to the collective efforts of him and other neighbors, all four individuals were successfully rescued before emergency services arrived.

Pembroke Pines Mayor Angelo Castillo highlighted the potential dangers posed by the North Perry Airport, referencing past incidents in the area. With 36 crashes reported within Pembroke Pines in the last five years, the community is understandably concerned about safety. Mayor Castillo has called for a thorough and independent investigation into the airport’s safety protocols to ensure the well-being of residents and air travelers.
The Federal Aviation Administration has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the crash, shedding light on the need for stricter regulations and oversight in the aviation industry. Incidents like these serve as a stark reminder of the risks associated with air travel and the importance of prioritizing passenger safety above all else.
As the local community reflects on this harrowing incident, there is a collective sense of relief that no lives were lost in the crash. The swift actions of residents and emergency responders undoubtedly played a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of the passengers involved. Moving forward, authorities are expected to take proactive measures to prevent similar accidents and uphold the highest standards of safety in the skies.
