The Gurnee, Ill., amusement park shared the news on their Instagram and official website, stating that all guests aged 15 and below must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or adult chaperone who is at least 21 years old to enter or stay in the park. This reactivated policy will be effective from Thursday, July 17th to Sunday, July 20th, and will continue on subsequent days from 5 p.m. until closing time.
Chaperones entering the park will be required to present a valid government-issued photo ID. Each chaperone can supervise up to 10 younger guests per day, and they must stay with their group throughout their visit, easily reachable by phone at all times. Any unaccompanied individual under 15 will face removal from the park.

The decision to implement this safety measure comes shortly after shots were reportedly fired in the parking lot of Six Flags Great America on July 7th. Although no injuries were documented, the Gurnee Police Department swiftly responded to the scene after reports of the shooting near the Tri-State Tollway. Investigations indicate that an argument may have led to the incident.
In light of current events and to maintain a secure environment for all visitors, the amusement park opted to activate the chaperone policy. This move reflects their commitment to prioritising the well-being of young guests and ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone at the park.
The implementation of this strict chaperone policy serves as a proactive measure by Six Flags Great America to address safety concerns stemming from recent incidents. By requiring younger guests to be accompanied by responsible adults, the park aims to prevent any potential risks or disturbances, prioritising a secure and family-friendly environment for all visitors.
As the summer season progresses, it is essential for amusement parks like Six Flags Great America to implement appropriate safety protocols to protect guests, especially children and teenagers. This chaperone policy reinforces the park’s dedication to upholding high standards of safety and security, reassuring visitors and families that their well-being is a top priority.
Moving forward, Six Flags Great America’s reactivated chaperone policy will continue to be in effect, demonstrating the park’s ongoing commitment to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests. By proactively addressing safety concerns and implementing measures to safeguard visitors, the amusement park aims to uphold its reputation as a premier destination for fun and excitement while prioritising the protection of its younger patrons.
