Amy Carter, the former first daughter, recently made a rare public appearance at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston. The library is currently hosting an exhibit titled “Presidential Pets,” showcasing the pets of past presidents, where Amy posed alongside photos and artwork featuring “first pets” from throughout history, including a picture of her 10-year-old self.

The 57-year-old Amy, who is the youngest child and only daughter of the late President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, was seen enjoying the exhibit and reminiscing about her childhood. The library staff shared the special moment on their official Instagram page, expressing their excitement at welcoming Amy to the exhibit.
Amy’s presence at the “Presidential Pets” exhibit holds special significance as she is featured alongside her beloved Siamese cat, Misty Malarky Ying Yang. Misty was the last feline to reside in the White House until the Clintons brought in their cat, Socks, in 1993.
During her father’s presidency, Amy was thrust into the public eye at a young age, with her every move scrutinised by the media. Her cat, Misty, became a well-known figure in the White House, adding a touch of warmth and charm to the presidential residence.
Apart from Misty, Amy was also briefly accompanied by a puppy named Grits, given to her as a gift. However, Grits did not stay long in the White House and was eventually returned to his original family.
The “Presidential Pets” exhibit at the JFK Library is open for visitors to explore and learn about the beloved animals that have graced the White House throughout history. The exhibit will run until January 4, 2026, allowing visitors to delve into this unique aspect of presidential history.
Tragically, Amy’s mother, Rosalynn Carter, passed away on November 19, 2023, at the age of 96. Her father, President Jimmy Carter, followed her in death just over a year later on December 29, 2024, living to be 100 years old. Amy paid tribute to her parents’ enduring love story during her mother’s memorial service, highlighting the profound bond they shared.
In a touching tribute, Amy read aloud a letter that her father had written to her mother 75 years earlier, expressing his deep love and admiration for her. The emotional moment captured the essence of the Carters’ partnership and the love that sustained them throughout their lives.
Amy’s visit to the JFK Library’s exhibit not only pays homage to her childhood memories but also serves as a reminder of the importance of family and cherished moments spent with loved ones. The “Presidential Pets” exhibit continues to attract visitors who are eager to explore this unique aspect of American history.
As Amy Carter reminisces about her childhood and the special bond she shared with her pets, visitors to the exhibit are offered a glimpse into the personal lives of America’s first families and the beloved animals that brought joy and companionship to the White House.
