A heartwarming story has emerged from a Christmas tree farm in Virginia, where a man has been reunited with his wedding ring an astonishing 15 years after losing it. Wayne Corpew, now 61, lost his precious wedding ring while cutting down a Christmas tree at Joe’s Trees, a family-run farm in Newport, in December 2010, as reported by Fox affiliate WDBJ.
Corpew recounted his fruitless search for the ring, sharing, “I went back up to where I dragged the tree to and searched there, but it wasn’t there. I went back to the truck and couldn’t find it there. The next day, I came back and brought a metal detector. There was snow on the ground, and I spent all day the next day looking for it, and nothing.”

The lost ring, a yellow and white gold band valued at $1,000 at the time, prompted Corpew to report the loss to the then-owner of the farm, Sue Bostic. Bostic pinned a note about the missing ring on a bulletin board in her office, hoping for a miracle. Years later, in 2018, the farm was taken over by new owners, Darren Gilreath and his wife Samantha, with Bostic’s notes of lost items passed down to them.
As fate would have it, in June, while the Gilreaths were hand-planting corn at the farm, they stumbled upon Corpew’s long-lost wedding ring. Samantha described the moment of discovery, saying, “As I’m planting corn, I’m walking through the rows, and I see this wedding band lying on the top of the ground… so I reached down and picked it up.”

Darren added, “The ring was found within probably three inches of the grass line that we hadn’t tilled… The chances of it being found were slim to none.” Following the discovery, the couple promptly contacted Corpew with the exciting news, leaving him in disbelief. Corpew expressed his shock, saying, “I couldn’t believe it. When I saw Joe’s Trees come up, of course, I had no idea.”
Despite the ring losing its sentimental value for Corpew since his divorce in 2013, he plans to put the recovered ring to good use. He had purchased the wedding band in 2008 and replaced it in 2011. PEOPLE reached out to Joe’s Trees for comment, but there was no immediate response.
This heartwarming reunion serves as a reminder of the power of perseverance and the unexpected twists of fate. The enduring story of Corpew’s lost and found wedding ring at Joe’s Trees will undoubtedly resonate with many, showcasing that sometimes, lost treasures can find their way back to us after years of being separated.
