Man Saves 2 Cats Before Jumping from Burning Apartment

A courageous man in New Hampshire saved his two beloved cats before taking a leap from his burning second-floor apartment. The incident occurred on July 1st, and fortunately, a city worker was there to assist him during the rescue operation. As a result of the fire, the man and his family are now grappling with the loss of all their possessions.

Blake McInerney, alongside his mother and girlfriend, was residing in the Franklin apartment when he noticed smoke infiltrating their living space. Realising the urgency of the situation, McInerney acted swiftly to ensure the safety of his pets. “I opened the front door, all the black smoke just piled through, so I knew I couldn’t get out that way,” he recounted.

In a desperate bid for help, McInerney reached out to bystanders on the street below. Describing the unfolding events, he spoke of a kind individual who climbed halfway up the roof to rescue the cats, demonstrating remarkable bravery amidst the chaos. Eventually, when the smoke intensified, McInerney broke a window and made a daring jump to escape the flames.

The Franklin Fire Department Chief, Michael Foss, confirmed that an off-duty worker from the local highway department played a pivotal role in catching the man as he leapt from the burning building. Foss commended the city worker for his swift action in helping to soften the fall, potentially preventing further injuries.

Upon arriving at the scene, Chief Foss observed three individuals from the upper apartments facing the harrowing choice of jumping down to evade the fire. While one person was provided with a ladder, the other two opted to jump. Despite inhaling smoke and sustaining fall-related risks, all three individuals declined hospital transportation, displaying resilience in the face of adversity.

Despite the life-threatening ordeal, McInerney’s partner, Ava Gallagher, and mother, Morgan McInerney, rushed back home upon hearing the distressing news. The fire incident has left the family devastated, as revealed by a GoFundMe page set up to support them during this challenging period. The apartment, meant to signify a fresh start for the family, was tragically reduced to ashes within hours.

Although everyone survived the fire, Gallagher, a recent college enrollee, lost valuable academic resources including her laptop and school supplies, while McInerney endured the loss of his car and motorcycle. As the family navigates the aftermath of the fire with minimal support, community assistance becomes crucial in aiding their recovery and rebuilding efforts.

As investigations into the fire’s cause continue, the long-term damage to the building remains uncertain. However, amidst the devastation, the community’s outpouring of kindness serves as a beacon of hope for the family as they strive to regain stability in the wake of this calamity.
