The community had rallied together to locate Yang, who had gone missing on Monday, June 23. Osenbaugh, a former professor of chemical engineering at the University of Michigan, decided to join the search efforts. His instincts led him to check the vacant home nearby, where he stumbled upon Yang alive. Osenbaugh recounted the moment he found Yang lying down with his back towards him, initially mistaking him for someone much younger.

Grateful for the swift discovery, Osenbaugh wasted no time in alerting the authorities. Shortly after his call, the police arrived at the scene. Body camera footage captured the heartening sight of officers rescuing Yang from the creek and transporting him to the University of Michigan Hospital for further evaluation. Despite his condition, Yang was described as “fairly responsive” and able to communicate with those assisting him at the scene.
The overwhelming response from the community was a beacon of hope in the search for Yang. Osenbaugh expressed his surprise at the number of volunteers who had joined the efforts, emphasising the impact of spreading awareness in such situations. He highlighted the significance of individuals coming together in times of need, showcasing the strength and solidarity of the Ann Arbor community.
The collective efforts did not go unnoticed, with the Police Department extending their gratitude to everyone involved in the search for Yang. Over 200 volunteers had participated in the evening search, with an additional 60 individuals combing the area earlier that day. The collaborative spirit demonstrated during the search resonated with the authorities, who praised the community for their unwavering support and care for one another.
Instances like this reaffirm the power of community and compassion in times of crisis. The willingness of individuals like Ben Osenbaugh to step up and lend a helping hand showcases the inherent goodness present in society. The successful rescue mission serves as a testament to the importance of unity and solidarity, reminding us all of the impact we can have when we come together for a common cause.
