Freddie Prinze Jr., known for his roles in ’90s classics like “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” recently shared some insights on his experience filming the iconic teen rom-com “She’s All That.” In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Prinze revealed that despite being the lead in the 1999 film, he was constantly anxious about being fired due to his perceived lack of experience in comparison to his co-stars.

The actor, who played the character Zack Siler in the movie, admitted to feeling overwhelmed by the talent and experience of his fellow cast members, including names like Rachael Leigh Cook, Matthew Lillard, Paul Walker, Kieran Culkin and Anna Paquin. Prinze confided that he didn’t have a formal acting background and was essentially learning on the job, which led to a constant fear of being let go from the production.

As filming progressed, Prinze’s anxiety gradually subsided when he realised the impracticality of replacing him, as it would mean reshooting significant portions of the movie. Despite his initial self-doubt, Prinze eventually found his confidence on set, thanks in part to the support and guidance he received from Cook, whom he describes as being like a sister to him. Their close bond off-screen translated into a strong rapport on set, with Cook helping Prinze navigate the challenges of filming.

Reflecting on the enduring friendships formed during the making of “She’s All That,” Prinze reminisced about the deep connections he established with his co-stars, such as Dulé Hill and the late Paul Walker. He also fondly recalled his admiration for rapper Lil’ Kim, who made a lasting impression with her down-to-earth attitude and authenticity both on and off set.
In a surprising turn of events, Prinze, now a parent himself, revealed that he has partnered with DoorDash for their Summer of DashPass promotion. The actor, who has a busy household with his children’s activities, shared how the food delivery service has become a convenient solution for managing meals amidst their hectic schedules.
With a career spanning over two decades, Freddie Prinze Jr. continues to captivate audiences with his on-screen presence. As he gears up for his upcoming projects, including the latest adaptation of “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” fans can look forward to seeing more of his talent and charisma on display. Through his candid reflections on his past experiences and present collaborations, Prinze exemplifies a blend of humility and resilience that has endeared him to audiences worldwide.
