In a bid to tackle the pressing issue of climate change, Prince William is pushing for swift action from world leaders and Indigenous communities. The Duke of Cambridge hosted a high-level meeting on June 26, bringing together politicians, philanthropic organisations, and Indigenous representatives to address the critical role Indigenous peoples play in safeguarding wildlife and combating climate change.
During London’s Climate Action Week, Prince William convened the meeting at St. James’s Palace, emphasising the vital work of Indigenous communities in protecting the environment and endangered species globally. The discussions focused on recognising the deep connection Indigenous peoples have with nature and the urgency to preserve it for future generations.

Among the attendees were prominent figures such as André Aranha Corrêa do Lago, President of COP30, and Sonia Guajajara, Brazil’s Minister of Indigenous Peoples. The meeting highlighted the importance of Indigenous knowledge and practices in environmental conservation, with a specific focus on projects like the Caru Indigenous Territory in the Brazilian Amazon.

Prince William’s commitment to environmental conservation was evident as he reiterated the fundamental role of nature in sustaining life on Earth. He stressed the need for immediate and purposeful action, stating, “If we are serious about achieving climate and biodiversity goals, Indigenous peoples and local communities must be central to the effort as partners, leaders and co-creators of solutions.”
Recognising the growing momentum in the fight against climate change, Prince William called for courage and unity among global leaders. He urged for collective action in protecting nature and ensuring a just and healthy future for all. The Duke emphasised the need for collaborative efforts to build a coalition that delivers tangible outcomes in environmental conservation.
The roundtable discussion at St. James’s Palace coincided with London’s Climate Action Week, where Prince William’s Earthshot Prize and United for Wildlife initiatives played a significant role. The Earthshot Prize, a 10-year project championing innovative environmental solutions, aims to inspire change and accelerate progress towards a sustainable future.
Prince William’s dedication to environmental causes has garnered praise from conservationists and advocates like Robert Irwin, who commended the Duke’s evolving approach to tackling environmental challenges. Irwin highlighted Prince William’s unwavering resolve and adaptability in seeking new collaborations and solutions to address the evolving landscape of environmental conservation.
As part of his ongoing efforts, Prince William continues to spotlight remarkable individuals and initiatives through the Earthshot Prize, emphasising the importance of scaling up impactful solutions to address global environmental issues. The Duke’s commitment to fostering positive change and inspiring a decade of transformation reflects his deep-rooted passion for environmental sustainability.
Through his collaborative efforts and advocacy for Indigenous conservation practices, Prince William remains a steadfast champion for environmental protection and climate action.
