The serene beauty of Lake Tahoe in California was shattered by a tragic incident that claimed the lives of eight individuals on June 21. Among the victims was DoorDash executive, Joshua Pickles, who was celebrating his mother’s birthday along with his family when the boat they were on capsized.
The U.S. Coast Guard reported that a 27-foot gold Chris-Craft boat capsized near D.L. Bliss State Park, leading to the devastating loss of eight lives. Despite the efforts of rescuers, including two survivors, the outcome was heartbreaking.

According to a family spokesperson, Sam Singer, Joshua Pickles and his parents, Terry Pickles and Paula Bozinovich, were on board the boat, along with uncle Peter Bayes and friends, to celebrate a special occasion. The group had been enjoying Paula’s birthday festivities when the unforeseen tragedy occurred.
Joshua Pickles, a dedicated DoorDash executive, had purchased the boat about a year ago, jointly owned with his father Terry. Both described as experienced boaters, they had taken the vessel out on the water only a few times before the fatal accident.
The announcement of the victims by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office revealed the names of those who lost their lives in the harrowing incident. Apart from Joshua and his parents, the others identified were 71-year-old Timothy O’Leary from Auburn, California, along with three individuals from New York – Theresa Giullari, James Guck, and Stephen Lindsay.
Jordan Sugar-Carlsgaard, Joshua’s wife, expressed her profound grief and extended condolences to the families affected by the tragedy. She highlighted the sudden and devastating nature of the event, emphasizing the joy that turned into sorrow on what was meant to be a celebratory day.
In a statement, Ravi Inukonda, the Chief Financial Officer at DoorDash, paid tribute to Joshua Pickles, acknowledging his significant contributions to the company over his seven-year tenure. Describing Joshua as an inspiring individual with a positive impact on his colleagues, Inukonda expressed the deep sense of loss felt throughout the organization.
The sudden loss of Joshua Pickles and the other victims of the Lake Tahoe boat accident has left a profound impact on their loved ones and communities. As investigations into the incident continue, the memories of those who tragically lost their lives will be cherished and honoured by all who knew them.
