The prosecution has concluded its case in the long-standing sex trafficking trial of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. The federal prosecutors have accused Combs of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy. Combs has vehemently denied the charges against him and pleaded not guilty. The prosecutors alleged that Combs coerced two women to partake in drug-fuelled sex sessions that sometimes lasted for days with male escorts. They also claimed that Combs operated a criminal enterprise over two decades, involving his employees in committing crimes.

After seven weeks of testimonies from 34 witnesses, including Combs’ former girlfriends, rapper Kid Cudi, and his former assistants, the prosecution rested its case. Casandra “Cassie” Ventura, who dated Combs and filed a lawsuit against him for rape, sexual coercion and abuse, testified during the trial. The case was settled swiftly for $20 million. The prosecution alleged that Combs coerced Ventura and another ex-girlfriend, known as “Jane,” to engage in sexual activities with male escorts, which they referred to as “freak offs” or “hotel nights.”

The women testified that Combs directed and filmed these encounters, during which he would also masturbate. Jurors were shown videos of these encounters, wearing headsets to view the footage. The media and spectators in the courtroom were not able to see or hear the videos. Additionally, on the previous day, the jurors were presented with various records related to flight plans, hotel bookings, and financial transactions connected to the sexual encounters central to the prosecution’s case.
Combs’ defence team strongly refuted the allegations of coercion into sex. Despite three bail denials, Combs remains detained at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center. The trial has been ongoing with high-profile witnesses and intense scrutiny on the allegations against the music mogul. The defence has yet to present its case, and the outcome of the trial remains uncertain as the legal proceedings progress.
