After much anticipation and speculation surrounding Prince George’s future education, a recent report suggests that he will be following in his father’s footsteps by attending Eton College, the alma mater of Prince William. According to sources cited in the Mail on Sunday, Kate Middleton and Prince William thoroughly considered various schooling options for their eldest son, who is set to celebrate his 12th birthday on July 22. The decision to enrol Prince George at Eton College seems imminent, with insiders hinting at an upcoming announcement from the prestigious boys-only institution.
The buzz around Prince George’s potential attendance at Eton College heightened when he was observed visiting the campus with his parents in 2023, sparking further speculation about his educational path. Despite no official confirmation yet, it appears that the choice has been made behind the scenes. Eton College typically enrolls students aged between 13 and 18, necessitating registration before the boy turns 10 during the school year. Late entries are only possible through scholarships or Sixth Form entry, with openings in Year 8 for Year 9 admission and in Year 11 for Sixth Form enrolment.

Eton College has longstanding ties with the royal family, as both Prince William and Prince Harry were former students at the institution. Prince William’s enrollment in 1995 marked a significant moment as the first senior royal to attend the school. Notably, other members of the royal family, such as Queen Elizabeth’s first cousins, including the Duke of Kent, the Duke of Gloucester, and Prince Michael of Kent, also received their education at Eton. The institution’s fees exceed $70,000 annually, covering tuition, accommodation, and most extracurricular activities.

Despite being a boarding school, Eton College’s proximity to the Prince and Princess of Wales’ residence in Windsor makes it a convenient choice for Prince George. This proximity ensures that he can easily visit his family, including his younger siblings, 10-year-old Princess Charlotte and 7-year-old Prince Louis. The accessibility of Windsor to Eton College mirrors the arrangement Prince William had during his time at the school, where he frequently joined Queen Elizabeth for Sunday lunches at Windsor Castle.
Currently, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis are attending Lambrook School together. Should the speculations regarding Prince George’s enrollment at Eton College prove true, it raises the possibility of Prince Louis also following his brother’s footsteps to the institution. However, as an all-boys school, Princess Charlotte would not have the option to attend Eton College. For her, the future might see her following her mother’s educational path at Marlborough College, a co-ed institution. The royal siblings, while occasionally appearing at public events, are mostly shielded from extensive public exposure, as Prince William and Kate aim to provide them with as normal a childhood as possible while preparing them for their future roles as members of the royal family.
