Legendary rock couple, Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, recently sat down for an exclusive interview with PEOPLE Magazine to reveal the key to their enduring marriage of over four decades. The power duo, who tied the knot in 1982 and have two daughters together, opened up about their relationship while attending WhyHunger’s 50th Anniversary Chapin Awards Gala in New York City.

The journey of their love story began in 1979 when they first crossed paths. From there, they not only became partners on stage, with Giraldo serving as Benatar’s lead guitarist, but they also exchanged vows in 1982. The couple went on to expand their family, welcoming two daughters – Haley, 40, and Hana, 31, and later embracing the role of grandparents to Stevie, Lola and Cash.

The evening also saw CNN’s Laura Coates receive the inaugural Bill Ayres Social Justice Award.
