Anthony Field, known as the Blue Wiggle in the world-renowned children’s entertainment group, The Wiggles, never anticipated performing alongside his own daughter. However, for Field, the opportunity to share the stage with his 21-year-old daughter, Lucia, has become one of his greatest joys. Growing up, Lucia was immersed in ballet as a boarding student at the Australian Ballet School while Field spent prolonged periods on tour, leaving him distant from much of her upbringing. The unexpected turn of events brought about by the pandemic led to Lucia’s return to Sydney, facilitating a newfound bond between father and daughter.

Field, now 62, revealed to PEOPLE in an exclusive interview that he had little knowledge of Lucia’s musical abilities. When the group found themselves in need of a replacement for a departing member, Field proposed the idea to Lucia, never imagining she would become a Wiggle herself. Reflecting on this transition, Field shared, “I never thought she’d be a Wiggle. So I’m just really happy it’s happened that way.” The father-daughter duo began making up for lost time, with Lucia officially joining The Wiggles in July 2022.
Expressing regret for missing out on much of Lucia’s upbringing due to his touring commitments during her teenage years, Field highlighted Lucia’s remarkable traits since joining the group. Describing her as possessing a great sense of humor, talent, compassion, and a love for children, Field fondly acknowledged Lucia’s growth and development. Field and his wife, Michaela Patisteas, share two other children, Marie, 19, and Antonio, 18. Marie has been lending her voice to Dorothy the Dinosaur on the show, while Antonio’s passion lies in music, playing the guitar and drums.
Established in Sydney, Australia in 1991 by Field along with Murray Cook, Jeff Fatt, and Greg Page, The Wiggles has evolved over the years. Despite the changes within the group, Field is determined to continue until circumstances dictate otherwise. Reflecting on his enduring commitment, Field expressed gratitude for the continued support from the original members and the enthusiasm that propels The Wiggles forward. Field also acknowledged the potential for retirement, revealing a pact with a fellow member to signal the time for him to step back should the need arise.
As The Wiggles remain a beloved staple in children’s entertainment, Field’s dedication to the group and his family’s involvement serves as a testament to his enduring passion for music and performance. Field’s unwavering commitment to continue contributing to The Wiggles underscores his love for the craft and the joy it brings to audiences worldwide.
