Def Leppard’s renowned guitarist, Vivian Campbell, has revealed that he is now “completely in remission” from his battle with Hodgkin lymphoma. This significant update comes after a challenging 12-year journey since his initial diagnosis in 2013.

In an exclusive interview on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk on June 11, Campbell expressed his relief at being free from the grips of the disease. He shared details of the extensive treatment he underwent, including various chemotherapy and immunotherapy sessions, as well as a stem cell transplant which unfortunately proved ineffective.

Despite setbacks, Campbell’s determination to overcome the illness remained unwavering. He recounted the pivotal moment when doctors advised him that a donor stem cell transplant was his best hope for a cure. Following this advice, he underwent the procedure, marking a crucial turning point in his health battle.
Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of cancer affecting the lymphatic system, posed a formidable challenge for Campbell. When his own stem cell transplant did not yield the desired results, the decision was made to seek an external donor, a procedure only considered in certain circumstances as explained by the American Cancer Society.
The lead-up to the transplant was marked by intensive chemotherapy treatments, with Campbell demonstrating remarkable resilience throughout the process. Despite a setback involving the loss of his initial donor, a replacement was found in December, paving the way for a successful transplant that brought renewed hope for the musician.
Although the treatment necessitated his absence from Def Leppard’s first concert of 2025, Campbell’s recent PET scan results have brought unparalleled joy. He joyfully shared that he is now “a hundred percent clean” and in complete remission, marking a significant milestone in his health journey after more than a decade.
Expressing gratitude for his anonymous donor, Campbell highlighted the sacrifices involved in bone marrow donation and the profound impact it can have on the recipient’s life. Despite not knowing the donor’s identity for a few years due to confidentiality protocols, Campbell eagerly anticipates the day he can personally thank them for their selfless act.
As fans and well-wishers celebrate this positive development in Campbell’s health, his story serves as a beacon of hope and resilience in the face of adversity. His unwavering spirit and determination to overcome the odds stand as a testament to the power of perseverance and the invaluable support of those who selflessly contribute to others’ well-being.
