Marvel has officially been granted a request to be removed from the legal drama involving actors Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. The decision follows the dismissal of Baldoni’s $400 million lawsuit. Judge Lewis J. Liman ruled that the information sought by Baldoni’s legal team is no longer relevant to the ongoing legal action.

On June 9, Marvel Entertainment LLC’s request to quash a subpoena issued by Baldoni’s lawyers was granted by the overseeing judge. The legal battle between Lively and Baldoni took a turn when the judge dismissed Baldoni’s multi-million-dollar lawsuit against Lively, Reynolds, and their publicist. This led to Marvel being removed from the legal proceedings.

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, U.S. District Court judge Lewis J. Liman granted Marvel’s request for a court order to quash the subpoena and prohibit the disclosure of Marvel’s confidential documents. Baldoni’s legal team had initially demanded access to documents mentioning Baldoni in relation to the character Nicepool in Deadpool & Wolverine, which was written by Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds.
Baldoni’s lawyers had sent a litigation hold letter to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger. The letter demanded that Marvel retain any documents mentioning Baldoni for potential use in the legal battle. The request aimed to uncover any communication that could suggest the character was used to harass Baldoni.
In response to Lively’s allegations of harassment, Baldoni had countersued the actress, Reynolds, and their publicist for $400 million, alleging defamation and civil extortion. However, the judge’s dismissal of Baldoni’s countersuit rendered Marvel’s involvement in the case unnecessary.
The legal battle between Lively and Baldoni continues, with a trial date set for March 2026. Lively seeks unspecified triple and punitive damages in her lawsuit against Baldoni. Despite the dismissal of Baldoni’s countersuit, the feud between the two actors remains ongoing in the legal arena.
For now, Marvel’s request to be removed from the legal drama marks a significant development in the case. As the actors navigate the complexities of their legal battle, the decision to exclude Marvel from the proceedings may impact the trajectory of the ongoing dispute. The drama surrounding Lively, Baldoni, and Reynolds continues to captivate audiences and industry watchers alike.
