A 19-year-old man was detained by the police for speeding and several other offences as he attempted to rush to a job interview. Azmir Djurkovic, the young man in question, found himself on a high-speed chase with the Connecticut State Police on June 4. The pursuit was eventually called off by an officer due to hazardous conditions on the road.

Initially evading the police, Djurkovic later turned himself in to authorities in Hartford, Conn. The incident unfolded around 8:54 on the morning in question when he was spotted driving at staggering speeds exceeding 130 MPH on Interstate 91 South in Cromwell. It was a reckless move that could have ended in tragedy, risking the safety of himself and other road users.
A statement released by the Connecticut State Police revealed that an officer observed a Mercedes E300 travelling at an alarming speed, significantly higher than the flow of traffic. The account mentioned that the vehicle was suspected of reaching speeds well over 100 MPH, with a police laser confirming it was moving at approximately 132 MPH. This blatant disregard for road safety led to the officer initiating a pursuit to pull the driver over.
During the pursuit, Djurkovic exhibited dangerous driving behaviour, making unsafe lane changes and weaving in and out of traffic. These actions forced the officer to terminate the chase to prevent any further risk to the public. Despite this, the police were able to track the vehicle and identify Djurkovic as the driver, leading to his subsequent arrest.
Upon his arrest, Djurkovic confessed to driving at high speeds and justified his actions by explaining that he was running late for a job interview. However, his explanation did not excuse his reckless conduct on the road. He now faces a slew of charges, including reckless driving, disobeying an officer’s signal, failure to maintain lane, passing on the right, and engaging police in a pursuit, among others.
After being released on a $2,500 bond, Djurkovic is scheduled to appear at the Middletown Superior Court for arraignment on June 17. It remains unclear if he managed to make it to his job interview amidst the chaos he caused on the highway. Connecticut State Police declined to provide further comments on the case when contacted by PEOPLE.
