The incident occurred as Thomas was being questioned about the murder of Julie Mitchell, a 34-year-old woman who was found beaten to death in her Oklahoma home back in November 2010. The case had remained unsolved for over a decade, with Thomas being a person of interest in the investigation.
Thomas, who vehemently denied any involvement in Mitchell’s murder, was being interviewed remotely by detectives when the shocking incident took place. Despite his denials, authorities were keen to question him further regarding the case.
The Oklahoma City Police Department had been pursuing Thomas for information relating to the unsolved murder, with previous interviews conducted in person. However, this time around, due to Thomas’ insistence, the interview was being conducted via a video call.

Authorities expressed their dismay over the unexpected turn of events, with the OCPD’s Master Sergeant, Gary Knight, highlighting the unprecedented nature of the incident. “Beggars can’t always be choosers, and this is somebody we wanted to talk to, we needed to talk to,” Knight said.
