According to reports from ABC News, Fox 35, and Click Orlando, the crane collapse resulted in the fatalities of the two construction workers. Both individuals were trade contract employees, one from Baker Concrete and the other from an unnamed trade contractor working on the hospital project. Gilbane Building Co., the contractor overseeing the construction, expressed condolences to the victims’ families and co-workers.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, Tod Goodyear, mentioned that the two injured workers were rushed to a nearby hospital but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries. Health First, the organisation operating the hospital, confirmed that no employees from their team were present at the site during the accident.
Lance Skelly, the system director for public and media relations at Health First, reassured that they are actively monitoring the situation in collaboration with local authorities and the construction management company, Gilbane. The project, which began in 2024, aims to replace the current Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach and is scheduled for completion in early 2027.
Gilbane Building Co. has suspended all work at the site as investigations into the incident continue. The company expressed solidarity with their trade contractors and emphasised their commitment to understanding the circumstances leading to the tragic crane collapse.
