Turkey Introduces Fines for Passengers Who Stand Up Immediately After Landing

Passengers on flights landing in Turkey will now face fines if they stand up from their seats before the aircraft has completely finished taxiing to the gate. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation in Turkey recently issued a statement warning travellers against standing up, opening overhead bins, or moving along the aisles before the seat belt sign is switched off and the plane has reached its parking position.
The official memo from Director General Kemal Yüksek clearly states the importance of respecting the disembarkation priority of other passengers around you. Failure to comply with these guidelines will result in passengers being reported and facing an administrative fine in accordance with the country’s aviation regulations.
While the exact amount of the fine was not disclosed in the memo, Turkish broadcaster Halk TV suggested that it could be around 2,603 Turkish lira, equivalent to approximately $67. This new rule is expected to apply to all commercial flights arriving in Turkey, with IGA Istanbul Airport being highlighted as one of the key airports where the regulation will be strictly enforced.
