A man named Jalen Vallejos, aged 20, was arrested after allegedly confessing to watching his ex-girlfriend sleep for several months while planning to harm her and her father. The incident took place in Florida where Vallejos now faces charges including aggravated stalking, criminal mischief, burglary, and loitering. The arrest was made by a deputy with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office just before midnight on a Sunday, according to a criminal complaint obtained by PEOPLE magazine.

The deputy initiated a “consensual encounter” with Vallejos while noticing him dressed in layers, wearing a black ski mask rolled up like a hat, and seemingly trying to hide his face from view. Despite the warm temperature of 76°F, Vallejos claimed he was dressed for the cold. The deputy also found him covered in vegetation, suggesting he had been walking through dense foliage. Vallejos was eventually detained after it was discovered he had a lock-picking tool, amid a rise in car thefts in the area.
Following his arrest, Vallejos revealed details of a chilling plan he had in mind. He disclosed carrying a backpack with items such as duct tape to cover security cameras, wire cutters, pliers, and a sledgehammer. His intention was to break into his ex’s home, watch her sleep, and potentially harm her father. Vallejos admitted to planning an attack on his ex’s property, revealing the extent of his unsettling intentions during the encounter with the deputy.
When questioned about the sledgehammer, Vallejos mentioned intending to use it to forcibly enter his ex’s residence and defend himself against her father.
