The incident occurred on Thursday, March 6, when Rench and Kendall were part of a five-man crew travelling in a six-seat Polaris Ranger utility vehicle. The group was headed to Point Mackenzie when the ATV broke through the ice, leading to the tragic turn of events. Rench’s obituary highlighted his love for the outdoors, including hunting and snowmachining, as well as his warm and compassionate nature.
