Hasbro’s beloved animated series “Jem and the Holograms” is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a special treat for fans. For the very first time, the iconic music from the show is now available on streaming platforms, marking a major milestone for the popular ’80s pop music-themed series.

The news of this release came from Hasbro on May 20, as they unveiled their plans to remaster and re-release some of the most beloved tracks from the show’s soundtrack. According to the announcement on Instagram, the original lead vocalist, Britta Phillips, was brought back to re-record six of the series’ most cherished songs.

The updated versions of the songs promise to blend synth-pop, glam rock, and girl-power anthems, capturing the essence of the 80s retro charm that made the animated band such a favourite among viewers. The release is not just a soundtrack; it’s a nostalgic time capsule that encapsulates empowerment, fashion, and originality.

Billboard confirmed that the full album, slated for release in July, will also be available on vinyl. Phillips, who was excited about the opportunity to revisit these songs, shared her enthusiasm with Billboard, expressing her thrill at being asked to sing the tracks again.

The six re-recorded songs include fan favourites like “Only The Beginning,” “Truly Outrageous,” “Like A Dream,” “I Got My Eye On You,” “She’s Got The Power,” and “Jem and the Holograms Theme (Reimagined),” which is already out for fans to enjoy.

“Jem and the Holograms,” which aired from 1985 to 1988, followed the story of Jerrica Benton, who transformed into the dazzling pop singer Jem with the help of a holographic computer called Synergy, built by her father. Together with her bandmates, Jem and the Holograms embarked on musical adventures, facing off against their rivals, The Misfits.

In 2015, the series received a live-action film adaptation directed by John M. Chu, featuring a talented cast that included Aubrey Peeples, Hayley Kiyoko, Juliette Lewis, Molly Ringwald, and Kesha. The film brought the vibrant characters from the animated series to life on the big screen, garnering both nostalgia and newfound appreciation from audiences.

To bridge the gap between the past and present, Hasbro also released a comic book series based on Jem, bringing the storyline into modern times and introducing the band to a new generation of fans. This year, in honour of the series’ milestone, a new Jem doll was released, further cementing the enduring legacy of the iconic characters.

As Phillips re-recorded the songs, she mentioned the emotional journey of revisiting these tracks, particularly highlighting the significance of “Only the Beginning,” a song from the pilot episode. The process of singing these songs again evoked a sense of nostalgia and reflection on her musical journey spanning four decades.
