The Tulsa Zoo recently delighted animal lovers by sharing the first glimpse of the now-resident elephants, Billy and Tina, who made a significant move from the Los Angeles Zoo. The Asian elephants, well-known fixtures at the L.A. Zoo, completed a 26-hour journey to their new home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Initially announced in April 2025, the relocation was a result of the elephants needing to be within a herd of at least three, as mandated by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

The Los Angeles Zoo confirmed the safe arrival of Billy, aged 40, and Tina, aged 59, at the Tulsa Zoo, following their departure from L.A. on Wednesday, May 21. The Tulsa Zoo presented the elephants’ first moments in their new enclosure through Instagram on May 22, showcasing the pair amid their successful reintroduction in the Elephant Preserve Barn. The zoo detailed that the diligent transfer was supported by pre-move training, ensuring a smooth transition for the beloved animals.

During the extensive road trip, which included scheduled stops for nourishment and hydration, the elephants exhibited calm behaviour, consuming hay, cantaloupe, romaine, and water at each break.
