Mia Farrow, the renowned actress, is gearing up for an unforgettable Mother’s Day celebration this year. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the 2025 Tony Awards junket on May 8th, Farrow, who is 80 years old, shared her plans for the special holiday. She expressed her joy at the prospect of having most of her children and grandchildren over. Reflecting on the occasion, she humorously mentioned hoping that her children would bring food or take her out to celebrate.
The iconic actress is a mother to 14 children, unfortunately having faced the loss of three of her children over the years — Tam in 2000, Lark in 2008, and Thaddeus in 2016. Despite the challenges she has faced, Farrow remains grateful for the opportunity to spend quality time with her loved ones on Mother’s Day.
Recently nominated for the 2025 Tony Awards in the category of Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play for her role in the Broadway production of “The Roommate,” Farrow expressed her disbelief at the recognition. She shared that the nomination made her think of her own mother, Maureen O’Sullivan, who was also an actress. Farrow described her mother as a significant influence in her life and spoke of the deep connection they shared.
The actress conveyed her emotions, stating, “I’m absolutely gobsmacked. It’s such an honor, and I know everyone says that, but it’s so personal, and I hadn’t expected it, and I did burst into tears, and I wish my mom could be here.” She continued to express how proud her mother would have been of her achievements.
Farrow shared a heartfelt sentiment in an exclusive statement following her nomination, saying, “I wish my mom were here – she would have been so proud of me. I’m so overwhelmed with gratitude to be among these nominees, as this is just the best community in the world. I’m still in the ‘oh my God, oh my God, oh my God’ mode.”
Reflecting on her bond with her mother, Farrow expressed, “I loved her so much and I carry her with me everywhere, and I have a way of communicating with her just to share my life, the best of it, with my mom.” She holds on to the belief that her mother’s presence remains with her, even after her passing.
The 78th Tony Awards, with Cynthia Erivo as the host, are set to air live on CBS and stream on Paramount+ from Radio City Music Hall in New York City on June 8.
