Diddy’s Legal Team Acknowledges Violence Towards Cassie – Cites Mutual Aggression

Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs is set to stand trial next week in a Manhattan federal court on sex crime charges. His ex-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura, is anticipated to be a key witness for the prosecution. The public was first made aware of allegations of violence against Ventura in 2023, when a video surfaced of Combs assaulting her in a Los Angeles hotel, as reported by CNN.
During a court session on Friday, Diddy’s defence attorneys made a significant admission, conceding that their client had been physically aggressive towards Ventura. However, they asserted that the violence within their relationship was mutual. Defence attorney Marc Agnifilo informed Judge Arun Subramanian that they intend to argue there was reciprocal violence, including instances of “hitting.”

This legal action triggered a series of civil suits alleging similar offences against Combs, culminating in a criminal indictment by the Justice Department in September 2024.
The 2024 indictment implicates Combs in utilising his music empire to coerce and manipulate women with promises of romance, exploiting threats and coercion to engage them in meticulously orchestrated sexual activities during events dubbed “Freak Off” parties. Allegedly, Combs employed various controlled substances to subdue and control his victims during these events, without their knowledge. The indictment designates Combs as the mastermind of this purported violent enterprise linked to accusations of kidnapping, drug offences, arson, and widespread sexual abuse.
As the trial progresses, Combs has expressed a strong desire to testify, although legal experts opine this could potentially expose him to further scrutiny. Finalising the jury selection process, 11 members were approved after extensive questioning from both legal teams and the presiding judge. Notable figures like Kanye West and Michael B. Jordan were referenced during the selection to gauge familiarity with high-profile individuals unrelated to the case.
Formerly a prominent figure in the music industry, Combs presently resides in the Special Housing Unit at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center. If convicted, he could face a life sentence.
