The 2025 Met Gala on May 5 was set ablaze with surprise performances by music legends Stevie Wonder and Usher. The star-studded event, themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, providing a platform for these iconic artists to showcase their talent to an exclusive audience.

According to Vogue, the evening kicked off with a poetry reading by co-chair Colman Domingo before Usher took the stage. The 46-year-old singer dazzled the crowd with a medley of his hit songs, including “Yeah!,” “U Don’t Have to Call,” and “OMG,” accompanied by a group of dancers. Usher’s performance exuded charisma as he engaged with the audience, even playfully feeding Sabrina Carpenter a cherry.

Dressed to impress, Usher donned stylish red and white suits by Willy Chavarria, accessorized with a pin by Ouie and a Brandan Murphy trench coat. Meanwhile, Stevie Wonder, aged 74, followed Usher’s electrifying act with a soulful performance backed by a nine-piece band. Wonder’s setlist included classics such as “Sir Duke,” “Higher Ground,” and “Superstition,” culminating in a joint performance of “Another Star” with Usher.
Both artists graced the stage in sophisticated attire fitting the Gala’s “Tailored for You” dress code. Usher, a member of the esteemed host committee alongside luminaries like Simone Biles and Spike Lee, radiated elegance in a classic black three-piece suit accessorized with a bowtie and silver accents. He was joined by his wife, Jennifer Goicoechea, adding a touch of glamour to the red carpet.
On the other hand, Stevie Wonder made a rare appearance in a striking cape ensemble with a matching jacket and black trousers. Accompanied by his family, including wife Tomeeka Robyn Bracy and son Kailand Morris, Wonder epitomized timeless sophistication with his signature shades and accessories by De Beers and David Yurman.
The Met Gala, co-chaired by luminaries such as Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams, serves as a fundraising event for The Costume Institute. This year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” celebrates the evolution of menswear and suiting, reflecting the changing landscape of fashion and artistry.
The performances by Stevie Wonder and Usher added a touch of musical brilliance to an already spectacular evening, leaving the audience in awe of their talent and showmanship. As these legendary artists continue to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide, their appearance at the 2025 Met Gala will undoubtedly be remembered as a highlight of the event.
