RHOP’s Gizelle Bryant and Ashley Darby offer insight into Karen Huger’s life post-DUI sentence behind bars (Exclusive)
Reality stars Gizelle Bryant and Ashley Darby of Real Housewives of Potomac recently shared an exclusive update with PEOPLE about their castmate Karen Huger’s well-being while serving time in prison. Huger received a two-year sentence, with one year suspended, following her DUI arrest in February 2025.
Bryant disclosed that Huger’s fellow inmates have developed a fondness for her, ensuring her safety during her time in prison. Darby, however, mentioned that Huger was not currently open to communication with her RHOP co-stars. The news came to light during a conversation at Bravo’s Love Hotel series premiere in Los Angeles on April 27.
The reality stars conveyed that they have been indirectly in touch with Huger through mutual acquaintances who communicate with her regularly. Despite initial concerns for her safety, Bryant stated that Huger had managed to stay safe within the prison walls. She also revealed that efforts were underway to establish direct communication, although it was a gradual process.
Regarding Huger’s husband, Raymond Huger, Bryant mentioned that he was coping as best as possible for someone separated from their partner of almost 30 years. The absence of his wife has undoubtedly been a significant adjustment for him, adding to the challenges of the situation.
Darby shared that updates on Huger’s well-being were being relayed through Bryant’s intermediary, indicating that while social interactions among the RHOP Housewives were limited, they were extending their support to Huger. Despite any past differences or playful jabs, Darby emphasised the importance of Karen’s personal growth and healing during this period.
The DUI incident involving Karen Huger occurred in March 2024, following a single-vehicle crash near her residence. Bodycam footage from the scene depicted a visibly impaired Huger interacting with law enforcement. The subsequent legal charges included DUI, DWI, and other traffic violations. Huger’s sentencing in February included a two-year prison term, with one year suspended.
The news of Huger’s journey behind bars has sparked interest and concern among fans and followers. As her RHOP co-stars provide updates on her progress, it remains to be seen how Huger’s experience will shape her future upon her release.
