Brown, 24, is determined to finish college and pursue a career as a social worker to assist individuals with disabilities in securing employment opportunities.
Despite being born with four different eye conditions – optic nerve atrophy, nystagmus, exotropia, hyperopia astigmatism – and having a visual acuity of 20/200, Brown has not let his disability deter him from excelling in the workplace. He recalls the challenges he encountered while job hunting, with many potential employers viewing him as a liability rather than focusing on his abilities.

Opening up about his experience working as an overnight stocker at Walmart, Brown shares that initially, he was assigned simpler tasks to accommodate his visual impairment. However, with determination and perseverance, he swiftly transitioned to stocking duties, proving his capability in a role that may seem daunting to many.
Documenting his journey on TikTok under the handle “theblindguy_,” Brown shares snippets of his daily challenges and triumphs, aiming to inspire others facing similar obstacles. Despite encountering bullies during his time at Henderson State University, Brown turned the negativity into motivation, leveraging social media to showcase his resilience and positivity.
In a surprising turn of events, one of Brown’s TikTok videos discussing the importance of individuals with disabilities putting themselves out there went viral, garnering widespread attention and praise, even catching the eye of Walmart’s executive vice president and chief people officer. The overwhelming response affirmed Brown’s impact beyond his community, inspiring both disabled and abled individuals alike.
Acknowledging the prevalent discrimination faced by people with disabilities in the workforce, Brown emphasises the need for inclusivity and support. He highlights common challenges such as joblessness and affordability issues, shedding light on the exploitation and reluctance individuals with disabilities often face when seeking assistance.
Despite navigating mental health struggles that interrupted his college education, Brown remains steadfast in his goal to return to academia and become a social worker dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities. His message of perseverance and resilience resonates with many, encouraging those facing setbacks to persist in their pursuits and defy societal stereotypes.
Jacoby Brown’s unwavering determination and positive outlook serve as a beacon of hope for individuals with disabilities striving to carve out their path in a world often marred by prejudice and barriers.
