The talented trio, Haim, brought a special twist to the New Orleans Jazz Fest with a surprise appearance by no other than their own parents. The festival attendees were in for a treat as Donna and Moti, parents to the Haim sisters, joined their daughters on stage for a heartfelt rendition of “Mustang Sally” at the Gentilly Stage on Sunday, April 27. The crowd was thrilled by the unexpected family affair, with Donna expressing her joy at being in New Orleans for the first time and hinting that it wouldn’t be their last visit.

Before gracing the stage, Donna shared with the audience some background about the Haim family’s musical journey. She revealed that they were all part of a band called RockinHaim in the past, where they performed cover songs for charitable causes. Despite jokingly mentioning that she and her husband were “kicked out of the band” when the girls pursued their career as Haim, she embraced the moment and welcomed the audience to be part of their musical family for the night.
The audience showered Donna with chants of “Mom! Mom! Mom!” as she distributed guitar picks to eager fans while Alana, Danielle, and Este showcased their musical prowess. The sisters performed a mix of their classic hits like “The Wire” and “Want You Back,” along with introducing new tracks from their upcoming album, ‘I Quit,’ scheduled for release on June 20. Notable singles from the album include “Relationships,” “Everybody’s Trying to Figure Me Out,” and “Down to Be Wrong.”
Following their Jazz Fest performance, Haim announced an upcoming tour set to kick off in North America in early September, building on the success of two surprise sold-out shows in Los Angeles. The first weekend of Jazz Fest also featured performances from acclaimed artists such as John Fogerty, Kacey Musgraves, Dave Matthews Band, and Lil Wayne, among others. The excitement continues into the second weekend of the festival from May 1 to May 4, with headliners including Santana, Luke Combs, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, and Pearl Jam.
This year’s Jazz Fest not only celebrates a diverse lineup of musicians but also shines a spotlight on Mexico’s rich music and culture. The festival’s official travel partner, Expedia, is hosting the Expedia Cultural Exchange Pavilion, showcasing the vibrancy and heritage of Mexico throughout the festival duration.
Haim’s surprise family performance at the New Orleans Jazz Fest served as a heartwarming moment for both the band and their fans, embodying the spirit of music and togetherness. The sisters’ infectious energy and musical talent, combined with the love and support from their parents, created a truly memorable experience for all in attendance. With a new album on the horizon and an exciting tour ahead, Haim continues to captivate audiences worldwide with their unique blend of indie-pop sounds and dynamic performances.
