After his return to the Ducks franchise in The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers reboot series in 2021, Estevez poured his creativity into crafting a script for Mighty Ducks 4. Estevez also elaborated on another script he penned during the strike, this time for a potential sequel to the 1986 horror/sci-fi film Maximum Overdrive. The original film, directed by Stephen King, depicted a world where machines become sentient after a comet strike. Estevez envisioned a sequel with his character, Bill Robinson, now a restaurateur, encountering chaos as Guy Fieri films Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on the day machines turn malicious. Despite his enthusiasm for the script, producers chose not to pursue the project.
Reflecting on his creative process, Estevez shared that his writing ventures into sequels for his past films were spontaneous and enjoyable. He mentioned starting with a simple idea that gradually grew into a full-length script. However, he acknowledged that without the rights to these properties, his scripts remained as creative exercises rather than potential film projects.
