Olivier Richters, famously known as “The Dutch Giant,” has given a glimpse into the challenges he faces while flying as a 7-foot-2-inch-tall passenger. Richters, who is 35 years old, recently took to Instagram to share a video documenting his experience boarding a plane and making his way to a specific seat that provides him with the comfort he needs during flights.

In the video, Richters can be seen navigating his way through the aircraft, hunching over to avoid hitting his head on the low ceiling and carefully ducking under exit signs. Upon reaching his designated seat at the rear of the plane, Richters settles into a seat by the emergency exit, allowing him the space to stretch out his legs comfortably. The lack of a seat directly in front of him and the presence of a “comfort seat” label on the headrest indicated the unique seating arrangement.

“This is the only way I can fly being 7’2″ or 2.18M. Thanks to @corendon.nl šŖš¼ #thedutchgiant,” Richters captioned the video, expressing his gratitude towards Dutch airline Corendon Airlines for accommodating his needs. Despite his towering height, Richters reiterated in response to followers’ queries that such seating arrangements are available for all passengers on Corendon Airlines flights.
As a prominent actor and bodybuilder, Richters has appeared in popular productions such as The Kingās Man, the Amazon Prime series Reacher, and as Ursa Major in the 2021 film Black Widow. Proclaiming himself as the “tallest actor and bodybuilder” globally, Richters’ stature presents certain challenges when it comes to everyday activities, including air travel.
The issue of accommodating tall passengers on flights has garnered attention recently, with one incident involving a 6-foot-5-inch flyer who was repositioned to the emergency exit row after struggling to find a comfortable seating position. Described by a fellow traveler on Reddit, the tall passenger had inadvertently caused discomfort to the person in front of him by pressing his knees into the occupied seat, prompting intervention from a vigilant flight attendant.
The need for airlines to address the comfort and safety of all passengers, irrespective of their physical attributes, remains a pertinent topic within the aviation industry. Instances such as Richters’ reveal the importance of providing inclusive seating options that cater to diverse body types and dimensions, ensuring a more comfortable and pleasant flying experience for all travellers.
Richters’ transparency regarding his seating preferences sheds light on the practical challenges faced by individuals of exceptional height during air travel. His advocacy for suitable seating arrangements serves as a reminder of the significance of accommodating passengers with varying physical requirements, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive and considerate travel environment for everyone.
