According to Deadline, the TV series will be developed by Netflix in collaboration with Williams’ production company, Nine Two Six. The show will be based on Reid’s 2022 novel, which revolves around the story of a retired tennis player, Carrie Soto, who decides to make a comeback for one final season under the guidance of her father. The narrative follows Carrie’s journey as she attempts to reclaim her record while navigating an “on-again, off-again romance” with Bowe Huntley, adding a layer of complexity to her return to the court.

The script for the adaptation will be penned by Amanda Kate Shuman, drawing inspiration not only from Reid’s novel but also from Williams’ own illustrious tennis career. Williams, who is 43 years old, confirmed her involvement in the project through a post on her Instagram Stories, sharing a screenshot of the Deadline article and tagging her production company in the announcement.
“Carrie Soto Is Back” marks the latest addition to a string of successful adaptations of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s works for the screen. Reid’s novel “Daisy Jones & the Six,” inspired by Fleetwood Mac, was adapted into a popular Prime Video series in 2023, while “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” is also in the works for a Netflix movie adaptation.
The anticipation surrounding the adaptation of “Carrie Soto Is Back” has sparked interest among Hollywood stars, with actors like Eiza González and Ana de Armas expressing their enthusiasm for the project. González, in particular, lauded Reid’s work and expressed her desire to be involved in the film adaptation, highlighting the impact of the novel on fans and industry insiders alike.
As the entertainment industry gears up for the upcoming TV series, fans and viewers eagerly await the release of “Carrie Soto Is Back” to see how Williams’ influence and Reid’s compelling storytelling will come together on screen.
