Milo Manheim, known for his role in “Little Shop of Horrors” at the Westside Theatre in New York City, recently shared a childhood memory that left him puzzled but eventually amused. The 24-year-old actor recounted an incident where his perception of a fan interaction involving his mother, Camryn Manheim, took an unexpected turn.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Milo revealed the story behind his introduction to his mother’s role as Toby Walters in the 1997 film “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion,” a cult classic. He fondly expressed his admiration for the movie and how a chance encounter on the streets of New York City shaped his understanding of his mother’s work.
Recalling the incident, Milo shared, “We were walking down the streets of New York when I was 6 or 7 years old, and someone came up to my mom and said, ‘F— off, Toby,’ and ran away. And I started crying.” Little did he know at the time that the fan was playfully referencing a line from the movie where Camryn’s character receives humorous yet sarcastic remarks from a classmate.
Despite the initial confusion and distress caused by the encounter, Milo’s perspective on the movie shifted after watching it with his mom later that day. He expressed gratitude for the experience, stating, “So luckily that was a movie that was a part of my childhood.”
“Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion” has since garnered a dedicated following, leading to talks of a sequel with original cast members Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow set to reprise their roles. Milo, having grown up watching the film and even discovering a souvenir from his mother’s role, remains closely connected to the movie’s legacy.
Reflecting on a sentimental moment during his performance in “Little Shop of Horrors” alongside Elizabeth “Liz” Gillies, Milo shared a heartfelt interaction with Camryn on opening night. He described the significance of his mother’s presence and support, highlighting a profound sense of validation and pride in her eyes.
Beyond his on-stage achievements, Milo emphasised the deeper bond formed with his mother through shared experiences and mutual respect for each other’s work. As the duo navigates the world of entertainment together, their connection transcends familial ties and extends to a profound appreciation for each other’s talents.
As Milo continues to shine in his career and carve his path in the industry, his journey is deeply intertwined with Camryn’s guidance and unwavering support. Through their shared love for the arts and mutual admiration, the mother-son duo exemplifies a bond that transcends roles and celebrates the essence of family in the spotlight.
In a world where talent often outshines relationships, Milo and Camryn’s story serves as a reminder of the power of familial connections in shaping individual journeys. Their endearing bond and shared passion for storytelling embody a narrative of resilience, growth, and mutual respect in the competitive landscape of show business.
