A 35-year-old man in Texas is facing charges after allegedly spilling boiling hot soup on his 67-year-old girlfriend intentionally. The incident, which reportedly occurred in Waco, left the woman with third-degree burns, according to a report by a local CBS-affiliated station KWTX.

Alexander Alton McDavid, the suspect in question, is accused of getting angry at his partner for “talking too much” on the fateful day of February 28. As she went to retrieve the food from the microwave, he allegedly struck the plate, causing severe burns to her right shoulder and forearm. The victim’s identity has not been disclosed.
McDavid is now held on multiple charges, including assault with bodily injury with a previous conviction, injury to the elderly, continuous violence against family, resisting arrest, and terror threat of family, as indicated by McLennan County Jail records accessed by PEOPLE. The total bond amount set for McDavid is $130,000.
The affidavit further reveals that this was not the first instance of abuse in the relationship. McDavid had reportedly been living with the victim for about a year before the soup incident, during which he had allegedly physically assaulted her before. Past instances of choking were mentioned, though no police reports were filed at those times.
In a disturbing turn of events, the victim, who reportedly does not have a phone or a means of transportation, had to personally visit the police station while at the Social Security Office to report the incident. Subsequently, the police documented her injuries and obtained a written statement as part of their investigation.
The McLennan County Sheriff’s Office had dealt with McDavid previously in May 2024 when he was arrested on charges of assault – family violence. The case from that arrest is reportedly still pending prosecution with the McLennan County District Attorney’s office. Additionally, McDavid had faced similar charges in both 2017 and 2021.
Attempts to gather further information from the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office and the McLennan County District Attorney’s office regarding the case were unsuccessful. The gravity of these accusations and prior legal issues highlight the need for timely intervention in cases of domestic violence to prevent escalation.
