An elderly fisherman, 82, from Louisiana faced a harrowing ordeal as he was trapped in thick mud while out fishing. The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that the man, a resident of Destrehan, Louisiana, was discovered in a wooded area off I-10 in LaPlace after his family reported him missing. It was late Sunday night when authorities found him, located about 30 miles west of New Orleans. The man had been fishing for crawfish when he found himself stuck in waist-deep muddy water, unable to free himself.

After not hearing from the elderly fisherman for more than eight hours, his family raised the alarm, prompting a search and rescue operation. St. John Parish patrol officer Corporal Travis Klibert managed to locate the man’s vehicle before Deputy Brian Kennedy utilised a drone to aid in the search. The missing fisherman was found in the woods not far from his vehicle, thanks to the drone’s assistance. Sergeant Jonathan Walker then provided him with a lifejacket and safely pulled him back to land using a rope.
The elderly man, whose identity was not disclosed, shared that he couldn’t call for help as his phone had stopped working after getting wet in the muddy ordeal. He was reported to be alert but was taken to a local hospital by Acadian Ambulance for further evaluation and treatment.
