Prince William has joined forces with TV personality Gail Porter and entrepreneur Steven Bartlett in Scotland for a vital royal project aimed at addressing homelessness. The Duke of Cambridge visited Aberdeen, in northeast Scotland, on March 27, to witness the progress of his Homewards project. During his visit, Prince William inspected the initial homes built as part of the Homewards project, accompanied by Homewards Advocate Gail Porter. Porter, an actress and writer, supports the mission by raising awareness and promoting the cause. The project involves six pilot areas across the UK, each experimenting with location-specific strategies to address homelessness, with collaborations between charities, local authorities, and businesses.

Prince William’s commitment to ending homelessness started over two decades ago, inspired by his late mother, Princess Diana. Beginning his public life in 2005, he actively engaged with charities like Centrepoint and The Passage. His dedication to the issue remains steadfast, reflected in his ongoing efforts to support vulnerable communities, particularly young people facing homelessness.

Acknowledging the 3.9% increase in youth homelessness in Aberdeen during 2023-2024, Prince William’s Homewards Aberdeen Coalition has prioritized assistance for young individuals. The royal’s day in Aberdeen commenced at the Aberdeen Foyer, an organization working to prevent youth homelessness and poverty. Together with Homewards Advocate Steven Bartlett, Prince William engaged in discussions with young people about the Project Flourish direction and interacted with potential employers.
In collaboration with recruitment agency Hays, Prince William launched an employment initiative under Homewards. Hays will facilitate national and local employment opportunities, offering data-driven insights to overcome employment barriers for homeless individuals. The partnership aims to extend its impact to other Homewards locations, ensuring a comprehensive approach to tackle homelessness.
Last October, Prince William featured in a documentary on Disney+ titled “Prince William: We Can End Homelessness,” shedding light on the organization’s efforts. The documentary, a part of the Homewards campaign, highlighted various contributors, including Gail Porter. The initiative continues to evolve, striving towards sustainable solutions and community support for those in need.
The royal visit underlines Prince William’s unwavering commitment to advocating for the homeless and driving tangible change through collaborative projects like Homewards. By partnering with influential figures like Gail Porter and Steven Bartlett, the Duke of Cambridge aims to inspire collective action and address homelessness at its core. The royal project stands as a testament to Prince William’s enduring dedication to social causes and his relentless pursuit of a more inclusive and compassionate society.
