The 23-year-old vanished after a night out with her colleagues, leaving behind unanswered questions and concerns for her safety. The disturbing find took place on Monday, March 24, when the vehicle was located submerged in the river. It wasn’t until the following day that the car was retrieved, and inside, skeletal human remains were uncovered. Surprisingly, it was revealed that the car had actually been located almost three years earlier, raising critical questions about why the authorities had not taken action at that time.

Subsequently, during the recovery operation, a revelation surfaced that a person had alerted the police back in 2022 about detecting something unusual in the Fox River with sonar equipment while fishing in the vicinity. Despite this information, the dive team’s initial assessment misjudged the find, categorizing it as a tire belonging to an all-terrain vehicle or a utility-task vehicle, thereby overlooking the crucial discovery.

Elgin Police Chief Ana Lalley expressed disappointment over the oversight, acknowledging that the department had missed a vital opportunity to investigate the matter further in 2022. Chief Lalley emphasised the importance of collaboration between different departments and the need for thoroughness in handling such cases, especially those involving missing individuals.

Following the revelation, discussions between the police department and the fire department ensued, leading to an apology from Elgin Fire Chief Robb Cagann for the mishandling of the situation.
