Tayme Thapthimthong’s rise to fame in his breakout role as Gaitok in season 3 of the hit TV series ‘The White Lotus’ is nothing short of a dream come true for the talented Thai actor. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Thapthimthong shared insights into his varied background, revealing a fascinating journey that led him to the world of acting.


Thapthimthong’s passion for acting blossomed during his college days at Kingston University near London, where he first delved into drama while pursuing a performing dance course. Despite exploring various dance styles like contemporary, ballet, African, Indian, and hip hop, Thapthimthong found his true calling in acting. He expressed, “It just felt right. It just felt good.”
Before stepping into the world of acting, Thapthimthong explored other ventures, including a stint as a singer and dancer post-graduation. However, his love for acting remained constant, leading him to pursue his passion more fervently. Interestingly, Thapthimthong also harbored a fascination with the military, which led him to train with the Royal Marines in England as a cadet before becoming a Lieutenant in the Thai Army upon returning to Thailand.
Reflecting on his journey, Thapthimthong shared, “I was there for three years, and I came out and worked in the private sector for two years — ended up as a bodyguard, and then White Lotus happened.” The irony of transitioning from a real-life bodyguard to portraying a similar role on television was not lost on Thapthimthong, who humorously pointed out instances in the show that clashed with his background in security.
As ‘The White Lotus’ season 3 nears its highly anticipated finale, Thapthimthong expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the series, emphasizing his disbelief at the surreal turn his life had taken. He recalled a heartfelt email he sent to the executive producers and show creator Mike White, thanking them for choosing him and providing him with the chance to showcase his talent on screen.
Looking towards the future, Thapthimthong aspires to continue his acting journey, expressing interest in action-packed and epic film genres like war films or John Wick-style productions. With a desire to exhibit his military training and weapon skills on screen, Thapthimthong’s enthusiasm for challenging roles is palpable. He even dreams of portraying a Thai James Bond, showcasing his versatility and commitment to his craft.
