A recall has been issued for nearly 30,000 pounds of Chomps beef snacks after “pieces of metal” were reportedly found in the product. The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that Idaho Smokehouse Partners recalled approximately 29,541 pounds of iChomps ready-to-eat beef stick products due to possible contamination with a “foreign material, specifically metal.” This issue came to light after two consumers reported finding pieces of metal in the product.

The affected products include specific lots of 1.15-ounce Original Beef sticks sold in 12-count pouches, 8-count pouches, and single sticks. Additionally, the 1.15-ounce Original Turkey Stick singles are also part of the recall. The products were produced from Jan. 13 to Jan. 15, 2025, and were distributed to retail locations in California and Illinois from one facility. Consumers who purchased these products are advised not to consume them and to either return them to the place of purchase for a refund or discard them.

Chomps emphasised their commitment to customer safety by voluntarily broadening the recall scope beyond the required measures. They expressed that the safety and trust of their customers are their top priority and stated, “We’re committed to taking every possible precaution when it comes to product quality and our consumers’ safety.” The company worked closely with their manufacturing partner and regulatory authorities to ensure that all affected products from the identified timeframe were removed from the market.

While there have been no confirmed reports of injuries due to consuming these products, consumers are encouraged to reach out to a healthcare provider if they have any concerns. It is important for consumers to check the impacted lot codes, which are available on Chomps’ website, for detailed information on the recall. The packages of the affected items will have an ink-jetted establishment number reading “6220A.”

The FSIS highlighted the potential presence of these products in consumers’ pantries and advised against consuming them. They urged consumers to either return the products to the place of purchase or dispose of them safely. Idaho Smokehouse Partners, the company behind the recalled products, also emphasised their commitment to food safety and consumer well-being.
