Crystal Mischley, a young bride-to-be, received devastating news just months before her wedding day. On June 5, 2023, she was diagnosed with 3B Bulky Classical Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. At the age of 27, Mischley was already experiencing a series of troubling symptoms for over a year. It all began with itchy skin, which was initially misdiagnosed as scabies by medical professionals. Her journey took a turn for the worse when she developed a persistent cough, night sweats, low-grade fevers, nausea, and debilitating fatigue. The lack of health insurance made it challenging for her to access the necessary medical care she needed.

Despite feeling extremely unwell the night before her bridal shower, scheduled for June 4, 2023, Mischley went ahead with the event. She pushed through the day, trying to enjoy the celebration with family and friends. However, after the event, her health deteriorated rapidly, leading her to seek urgent medical attention. It was then, during an X-ray of her chest, that doctors discovered a large tumor, ultimately revealing her cancer diagnosis.
Mischley’s world turned upside down as she faced the reality of battling cancer just before her wedding. With the support of her then-fiancé Matt, she embarked on a gruelling treatment journey. Starting with a chemo protocol, she later underwent an autologous stem cell transplant. The treatment posed challenges, including the possibility of impacting her fertility. Despite the setbacks, Mischley remained resilient, opting for a newer procedure called ovarian tissue cryopreservation, offering hope for her future family plans.
As the initial treatment did not yield the expected results, Mischley faced the harsh reality of being “chemo-resistant,” necessitating further chemotherapy and another stem cell transplant, this time using donor cells. The couple made the tough decision to postpone their wedding and elope, navigating through the hardships of ongoing medical treatments and cancellations. Despite the challenges, Matt remained by her side as her unwavering support system throughout the tumultuous journey.
Currently preparing for her second stem cell transplant, Mischley continues to exhibit strength and resilience in the face of escalating medical complications. While awaiting the transplant, she undergoes further chemo and radiation treatments as the cancer has spread to her lungs. Through it all, she finds solace in her support network, self-care routines, and engaging in activities that bring her joy.
The journey has not been easy for Mischley, but she remains hopeful and determined to overcome the obstacles that cancer has thrown her way. Through social media, she has shared her story, raising awareness for lymphoma and encouraging others to consider becoming stem cell donors. Despite the adversity, Mischley finds joy in the simple moments shared with her husband and loved ones, cherishing the little things that bring brightness to her challenging days.
As Mischley continues to navigate her cancer battle, she remains an inspiration to many, spreading awareness and positivity through her journey. Her resilience, determination, and unwavering spirit serve as a beacon of hope for those facing similar challenges, reinforcing the power of perseverance in the face of adversity.
