Woman Rescued After Accident on a Trail in Kentucky

A hiker was saved after a mishap that occurred on Tuesday, March 18, in Pine Ridge, Ky., as announced by the Wolfe County Search & Rescue Team. The incident took place when the woman slipped down a cliff that was approximately 15 to 20 feet in depth within the Red River Gorge Geological Area. Fortunately, a tree obstructed her fall, preventing a more severe outcome.
The hiker reached out to the Wolfe County Search & Rescue Team for assistance around 1:15 p.m. EST on the mentioned day. She mentioned that she had lost her balance while trying to retrieve her air pods, which had slipped further up the cliff face. Upon the arrival of the response team, it was confirmed that she had not sustained any injuries. Subsequently, the team members prepared for a technical rope rescue operation.
One of the team members descended to her position and secured her in a rescue harness, per the official statement. The hiker had been exploring the main attraction of the Whistling Arch Trail, described as a substantial dry rock shelter with a picturesque view and arch formation, according to the U.S. Forest Service. The geological region of Red River Gorge boasts over 100 natural arches, making it the area with the highest arch concentration in the east of the Rocky Mountains.
Situated about 60 miles southeast of Lexington, Ky., the Red River Gorge Geological Area provides a haven for hiking enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
