The active ingredient in Benadryl, diphenhydramine, is a first-generation antihistamine used to treat various conditions such as dystonias, insomnia, pruritis, urticaria, vertigo, and motion sickness. An overdose of diphenhydramine can lead to severe toxicity, including symptoms like cardiac arrhythmias, muscle tissue breakdown, delirium, hallucinations, blurred vision, urine retention, and seizures. In some cases, it can be fatal, causing serious heart rhythm disturbances, pneumonia, muscle damage, or even brain damage.

This recall affects approximately 2,300 bottles of Benadryl that were sold without the required child-resistant packaging. The recall does not relate to the product itself but to the inadequate packaging, which increases the risk of unintentional ingestion by children.
